<p>Stretching is a vital part in any exercise program as it helps prepare the body for tedious physical activities. It can increase the body’s flexibility and improve blood circulation. Stretching every couple of hours in while at work can help alleviate stress and increase productivity. It is best to take a couple of minutes to stretch the arms, thighs, lower back, neck and shoulders and it is best that this is done after waking up.</p>
<h2>Walking</h2>
<p>Walking is also a good physical exercise. It is low intensity but provides great blood circulation. One can try walking for fifteen to 30 minutes a day, enough to get the heart pumping and the blood circulating. It is also recommended to grab opportunities to walk instead of using a car or public transportation or even using the stairs instead of elevators or escalators.</p>

<p>Once your endurance starts to improve, you can try to jog or run thirty to forty five minutes a day. It is important to listen to your body and test your endurance by gradually increasing the amount of time spent jogging. On the other hand, you can also try alternating walking and running—doing two minutes of walking and a minute of jogging—and gradually decreasing the amount of time spent in walking and increasing the amount of time in running.</p>
<p>Lastly, if the person’s endurance has already been built up to the point that they canjog or run for a half hour without feeling faint or exhausted, they can also try using weights when they jog. It does not need to be heavy or require the person to buy dumbbells. Instead, one can try holding two bottles of water in each arm as while jogging.   Alternatively, one can seek professional guidance in creating a weight lifting routine by joining a gym. Gym instructors have the expertise and knowledge in creating an exercise regimen that is appropriate for your unique needs. Weight lifting will help tone muscles and stimulate the body’s metabolism.</p>
<p>Healthcare professionals recommend a person to engage in 90 minutes of physical exercise a week. If this is divided into 5 days a week, one only needs to exercise daily for around 20 minutes. This does not seem very tedious compared on how much time one spends in front of the television or the computer. All it takes is a little self-discipline and one can make regular exercise a part of his daily habit. Certainly, all these efforts will surely be worth it once one increase in age but still maintains a healthy and strong body.</p>

<p>An athlete needs to know the energy source required of his or her sport, whether it is aerobic or anaerobic. All training begins with a good aerobic base, and anaerobic training is added on as needed.</p>
<p>Many sports that are commonly enjoyed require a combination of aerobic and anaerobic capability. <strong>Cardiovascular training</strong> usually focuses on aerobic training, but training the anaerobic system also has its benefits. Anaerobic exercise does not supply the muscles with oxygen and produces the burning sensation due to lactic acid building up in the muscle being worked.</p>
<p><em>Training the anaerobic system</em> requires high intensity exercise. It is based on the overload principle that the body adapts to harder loads and then becomes more conditioned as a result. It is most important to note that high intensity exercise is not for everyone. Individuals with a history of high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, joint related injuries, or who have been sedentary for more than a couple months should center their fitness programs around moderate intensity workouts.</p>
<p>A strong, healthy exerciser who has been active for at least six months can participate in high intensity training, however, it is not easy, and will probably produce the need for a longer recovery time. During high intensity exercise, correct and safe form is mandatory to avoid injury. High intensity training results in cardiovascular improvement and great increases in strength and endurance. <strong>Anaerobic training</strong> teaches the muscles to tolerate a much higher level of lactic acid and perform longer at higher intensities.</p>

<p>The most common limitation for the serious recreational athlete is the anaerobic threshold, the point at which breathing first becomes labored. Training specifically at this anaerobic threshold will make a difference in performance. Here are two ways to train your anaerobic threshold.</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Steady State Training</strong> is performed weekly, and begins with a complete warm up. Then exercise is increased to the anaerobic threshold level for 3-5 minutes for beginners. Intermediate level can go 5-10 minutes and advanced exercisers may work out at the anaerobic level for 12-15 minutes. After this high intensity time period, complete the workout at your normal aerobic pace. Each week, increase the amount of time at the anaerobic threshold by 1 minute until you work up to 20 minutes.</li>
<li><strong>Cruise Intervals</strong> also begin with a thorough warm up. After reaching your aerobic rate, work for several minutes at your anaerobic threshold level, followed by one minute of aerobic pace activity. Repeat this anaerobic/aerobic cycle for 10-15 minutes initially and gradually add intervals until you are working out for 20-30 minutes. This program can be performed 2 days per week.</li>
