Exhibition of Nazi-looted works of art

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

It’s amazing how nowadays there’s still stolen art by the Nazis being exposed in some museums. The rightful owners see themselves obliged to head to museums like the one I’m going to write about just to see their own works which they didn’t had intention of getting rid off.

At The Leopold Museum in Vienna there’s currently one exhibition by the Austrian artist Albin Egger-Lienz were you can find between the works 14 Nazi-looted paintings. Also not shown but held in the museum permanent collection there’s the magnificent painting by Egon Schiele, 1914, houses on the lake which was stolen by the Nazis from the Jewish owner Jenny Steiner.

Although the director of the museum refuses to have any knowledge about the provenance of Houses until 1998 there are accusations made by the Austria Green Party and other singulars that say that Leopold is wrongly holding the Nazi-looted paintings.

Leopold Museum isn’t restituting those paintings because it’s a private institution. This museum has been founded by the government and shouldn’t this have some weight into making the museum return the works of art as the government museums have to? If it wasn’t a private institution the law could make the museum give back the paintings due to Austria’s law regarding Nazi-looted art.

It’s a pity to see such actions protected by Austria’s laws but we can only expect that the government will reconsider those laws in order not to allow such situations to happen again.

The holy mountain (the movie)

The Holy Mountain (1973 film)Image via Wikipedia

The Holy Mountain is one of the most amazing films ever done. This film was created in 1973 and shown at several international film festivals at the time, also had limited screenings at New York and San Francisco.

Unfortunately the wide release of the film only happened in 2007 because it was so controversial.

This movie was directed by Alexandro Jodorowsky and is full of symbolism.

The story goes around the main character reaching a wanted real or unreal objective and what happens on the way to get there, like a spiritual voyage.

I was completely amazed with this film and that’s why I decided to post about it, for me it’s like a present for the human kind because the movie is like opening a cinema Pandora box. I absolutely loved the idea of the director in starting a new kind of film, a film that reaches much further than others in the way that it’s full of emotional messages. A must see for sure!

Here I leave you with a video that for sure is going to convince you to see the film if you haven’t already seen it.

Horrible act of art

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Probably you must have eared of a so called artist named Guillermo Vargas Habacuc. This men last year tied a stray dog inside the place were he was doing an exposition of his works. This dog made part of the exposition and the objective of this man was to let the dog die. The dog had no care whatsoever; this means no water and no food which led him to a painful death.

I don’t know how people can think this is art but we live in a free world. What I cannot allow is the suffering of an animal, specially a dog which is so kind and friendly to the human race.

Here are some photos from last year of this artist so called art.

Guillermo Vargas Habacuc horrible work of art

I urge everybody to revolt against this miserable idea of Guillermo Vargas Habacuc which he wants to repeat again  this year at the Biennial American Center of Art which amazingly supports him…

Anyone with a bit of common sense can help stop this demonstration of ignorance by signing an online petition against Guillermo Vargas Habacuc actions.

If you want to check out this story just search in google for Guillermo Vargas Habacuc and you’ll find these horrible photos.

Your signature counts and you don’t need to pay or register anything.

Please help stop this salvage and cruel act.

Hockney biggest painting donated to Tate Gallery

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

David Hockney’s Bigger Trees near Water painting has been donated to Tate Gallery. This painting which probably is the biggest painting ever done in the open air is his largest painting measuring 4.5 meters high and over 12 meters long. The view of a copse outside Bridlinton (Yorkshire) which is Hockney’s present home was painted over 50 canvases. It took David Hockey only a few weeks to paint Bigger Trees near Water despite it was a major logistical operation. This oil painting hasn’t been evaluated but it seems that is one of the most generous gifts presented by an artist to an UK gallery in recent years.

The contemporary art scene at Dubai is growing really fast because Dubai is investing in art shows. Also art dealers and collectors show growing interests about what goes on at Dubai since there are zero import or export taxes for art.

The biggest Middle East art fair is going to be realized at Dubai some time soon, and brings together a record of 68 participating galleries from 28 countries and thousands of art lovers.

From now on if you want to keep up with what goes on in art and get the best deals you should keep an open eye at Dubai.

2007 most visited museum and exposition

According to the journal “The Art Newspaper” The Louvre was the most visited museum of 2007 with 8.3 millions visits. The most visited exposition was the one with the painting “annunciation” of Leonardo da Vinci at the National Museum of Japan (Tokyo), because the Japanese really enjoy occidental art, especially Italian art.

The first six most visited museums are located at France (Paris) and U.S.A. (New York and Washington). The seventh most visited museum was at the Vatican.
